This course provides technical information about treatment for children under 5 with acute malnutrition.
The course has two modules:
Module 1 provides information and practical tools to help identify acute malnutrition, and describes preparedness, and planning for the treatment of children under 5 years old with acute malnutrition/wasting.
Module 2 focuses on the administration of individual treatment and community engagement.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of Module 1, you should be able to:
- Describe how to assess acute malnutrition in children under 5 years old
- Describe the relevant standards for managing acute malnutrition in emergencies
- Explain the components of early detection and treatment for acute malnutrition
- Explain admission and discharge criteria for the treatment of acute malnutrition in children under 5 years old
- Discuss the importance of early childhood development (ECD) in treatment
By the end of Module 2, you will be able to:
- Discuss the importance of communication and community engagement in Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)
- Describe the principles of treating severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) in children
- Explain the monitoring and evaluation of CMAM programming
